Retatrutide is an investigational synthetic peptide engineered to activate three distinct hormone receptors within a single molecule. It targets the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor, the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor, and the glucagon receptor simultaneously. This triagonist design distinguishes it from earlier incretin-based compounds that act on one or two of these pathways. Structural modifications relative to native gut hormones extend its residence time in circulation. The molecule remains under clinical evaluation and is not approved for any indication.
Receptor activation produces downstream effects that differ by tissue. GLP-1 receptor signaling influences appetite regulation and insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. GIP receptor activity contributes to metabolic handling of nutrients and may modulate adipose tissue. Glucagon receptor engagement raises energy expenditure and promotes hepatic lipid turnover, though the balance among these actions in humans is still being characterized. Preclinical models showed reductions in body weight and improved glycemic markers.
Lyophilized material is generally held at minus 20 degrees Celsius or colder for long-term storage, protected from moisture and light. Solutions are handled under refrigeration, typically between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, and used within a short window because degradation and microbial growth both accelerate in liquid. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided, and vials are equilibrated to room temperature before opening to reduce condensation. These are general laboratory conventions for peptides of this size rather than product-specific directions.
Characterization panels may add amino acid analysis for compositional confirmation, circular dichroism for secondary structure in solution, and light scattering for aggregation tendency. Aggregation is a central concern for peptides bearing hydrophobic side chains, since it can lower measured potency and complicate accurate dosing. Stability studies examine temperature, humidity, pH, and light exposure over defined intervals, reporting the percentage of intact peptide remaining. Results depend strongly on the assay used, so comparing values across studies requires matching method details.

== Triquinoyl therapy == In the late 1940s, William J. Hale claimed that "triquinoyl", being a trimer of William Frederick Koch's glyoxylide, should be just as effective as the latter against "diabetes, arthritis, poliomyelitis, and even cancer". Even though there is no research supporting this claim (and Koch's glyoxylide preparations were found to be just distilled water), triquinoyl is still listed as an ingredient of some alternative medicine remedies.
The current reviewers identified a number of basic science research areas that could be helpful in resolving some of the controversies in the field, two of which were: 1) material science aspects of deuterated metals using modern characterization techniques, and 2) the study of particles reportedly emitted from deuterated foils using state-of-the-art apparatus and methods. The reviewers believed that this field would benefit from the peer-review processes associated with proposal submission to agencies and paper submission to archival journals. Cold fusion researchers placed a "rosier spin" on the report, noting that they were finally being treated like normal scientists, and that the report had increased interest in the field and caused "a huge upswing in interest in funding cold fusion research". However, in a 2009 BBC article on an American Chemical Society's meeting on cold fusion, particle physicist Frank Close was quoted stating that the problems that plagued the original cold fusion announcement were still happening: results from studies are still not being independently verified and inexplicable phenomena encountered are being labelled as "cold fusion" even if they are not, in order to attract the attention of journalists. In February 2012, millionaire Sidney Kimmel, convinced that cold fusion was worth investing in by a 19 April 2009 interview with physicist Robert Duncan on the US news show 60 Minutes, made a grant of $5.5 million to the University of Missouri to establish the Sidney Kimmel Institute for Nuclear Renaissance (SKINR).
== Chimerism and intersex == The concept of a "human hermaphrodite" resulting from chimerism is largely a misconception. Most intersex individuals are not chimeras, and most human chimeras are not observed to have intersex traits. Theoretically, if a gynandromorphic human chimera were to have fully functioning male and female gonad tissue, such an individual could self-fertilize; this hypothesis is backed by the fact that hermaphroditic animal species commonly reproduce in this way, and it has been observed in a rabbit. However, no such case of functional self-fertilization has ever been documented in humans; and it is non-existent or extremely rare in mammals, especially in humans. While humans are known to have sex characteristics that diverge from typical males or typical females, these individuals fall under the social umbrella of intersex conditions and traits, and some consider the term "hermaphrodite" to be a slur when applied to them.
== Caveats == Several factors can affect the reliability of inter-country comparisons of resistance rates, due to differences in data quality and biased introduced during data collection and reporting. Several identified by EARS-Net are:

== Chemistry == Xanomeline has structural and pharmacological similarities to the main psychoactive ingredient in betel nut, arecoline, and the natural muscarinic receptor neurotransmitter, acetylcholine. Xanomeline is an achiral and lipophilic small molecule with a molecular weight of 281.4 (also known as hexyloxy-TZTP, LY246708, Lumeron, Memcor - Eli Lilly; NNC 11-0232 - Novo Nordisk; Kar-XT, Karuna Therapeutics). Xanomeline's physical chemical properties, including low molecular weight, lipophilicity, and absence of hydrogen bond donors, favor its entry into the brain with a high brain to plasma ratio (> 10:1).
== Chemical properties == myo-Inositol is a meso compound, meaning it is optically inactive because it has a plane of symmetry. It is a white crystalline powder, relatively stable in the air. It is highly soluble in water, slightly soluble in glacial acetic acid, ethanol, glycol, and glycerin, but insoluble in chloroform and ether. In its most stable conformation, the myo-inositol isomer assumes the chair conformation, which moves the maximum number of hydroxyls to the equatorial position, where they are farthest apart from each other. In this conformation, the natural myo isomer has a structure in which five of the six hydroxyls (the first, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth) are equatorial, whereas the second hydroxyl group is axial.
=== Radiological cleanup === A radiological survey of Enewetak was conducted from 1972 to 1973. In 1977, the United States military began decontamination of Enewetak and other islands. During the three-year, US$100 million cleanup process, the military mixed more than 80,000 cubic meters (100,000 cu yd) of contaminated soil and debris from the islands with Portland cement and buried it in an atomic blast crater on the northern end of the atoll's Runit Island. The material was placed in the 9.1-meter (30 ft) deep, 110-meter (360 ft) wide crater created by the May 5, 1958, "Cactus" nuclear weapons test. A dome composed of 358 concrete panels, each 46 centimeters (18 in) thick, was constructed over the material. The final cost of the cleanup project was US$239 million. The United States government declared the southern and western islands in the atoll safe for habitation in 1980, and residents of Enewetak returned that same year. The military members who participated in that cleanup mission are suffering from many health issues, but the U.S. Government refused to provide health coverage until 2022 with the passage of the Honoring our PACT Act. The 2000 environmental restoration award included funds for additional cleanup of radioactivity on Enewetak. Rather than scrape the topsoil off, replace it with clean topsoil, and create another radioactive waste repository dome at some site on the atoll (a project estimated to cost US$947 million), most areas still contaminated on Enewetak were treated with potassium.
DABA analogues A novel family of zinc-targeting diaminobenzoic acid (DABA) compounds were rationally designed and developed in 2013, displaying micromolar potency for ERAP1 inhibition (compound 2, IC50 = 2 μM, Table 1). Moderate selectivity over ERAP2 and IRAP with additional optimization efforts based on extensive investigation of SAR has been achieved.
=== Medical efficacy === The microbiological efficacy of DBNPA against bacteria coupled with the degradation results found early in the corn-to-ethanol process, could allow this biocide to replace antibiotics in the corn-to-ethanol biofuel industry. DBNPA can be used to protect against bacterial infection of the corn-to-ethanol process, saving on costs of raw materials, finished products, and post bacterial infection clean-outs, but it is also suggested that use of this biocide can help prevent antibiotic resistance. Adverse effects Exposure to DBNPA can lead to several health concerns like acute toxicity, skin and eye irritation and respiratory effects. Potential for occupational exposure to DBNPA exists during manufacture, at bulk unloading, storage and staging areas, but also during sampling and maintenance operations in facilities while using the chemical as an additive in the manufacture of other products. A much lower potential for exposure exists in facilities using DBNPA in closed manufacturing processes by trained personnel. A positive pressure air-supplied respirator is required when airborne concentrations of DBNPA exceeds the recommended exposure limit. In addition, LANXESS recommends the use of safety glasses with side shields or safety goggles, chemical-resistant gloves, a chemical-resistant protective suit and suitable protective footwear be worn when handling DBNPA. Regarding short-term health effects, DBNPA is very toxic by inhalation and toxic by ingestion. Prolonged exposure may cause severe nose, throat and lung irritation.

Neutral mutations are changes in DNA sequence that are neither beneficial nor detrimental to the ability of an organism to survive and reproduce. In population genetics, mutations in which natural selection does not affect the spread of the mutation in a species are termed neutral mutations. Neutral mutations that are inheritable and not linked to any genes under selection will be lost or will replace all other alleles of the gene. That loss or fixation of the gene proceeds based on random sampling known as genetic drift. A neutral mutation that is in linkage disequilibrium with other alleles that are under selection may proceed to loss or fixation via genetic hitchhiking and/or background selection. While many mutations in a genome may decrease an organism’s ability to survive and reproduce, also known as fitness, those mutations are selected against and are not passed on to future generations. The most commonly-observed mutations that are detectable as variation in the genetic makeup of organisms and populations appear to have no visible effect on the fitness of individuals and are therefore neutral. The identification and study of neutral mutations has led to the development of the neutral theory of molecular evolution, which is an important and often-controversial theory that proposes that most molecular variation within and among species is essentially neutral and not acted on by selection. Neutral mutations are also the basis for using molecular clocks to identify such evolutionary events as speciation and adaptive or evolutionary radiations.
It is for this reason that we have taken the liberty of addressing this communication direct to you." After listing civilian witnesses who could confirm their allegations, Trooper Cochrane concluded, "Sir, many of us are Australians who have fought throughout nearly the whole war while others are Africaners who have fought from Colenso till now. We cannot return home with the stigma of these crimes attached to our names. Therefore we humbly pray that a full and exhaustive inquiry be made by Imperial officers in order that the truth be elicited and justice done. Also we beg that all witnesses may be kept in camp at Pietersburg till the inquiry is finished. So deeply do we deplore the opprobrium which must be inseparably attached to these crimes that scarcely a man once his time is up can be prevailed to re-enlist in this corps. Trusting for the credit of thinking you will grant the inquiry we seek." In response to the letter, Col. Hall summoned all Fort Edward officers to Pietersburg on 21 October. All were met by mounted infantry five miles outside Pietersburg on the morning of 23 October and "brought into town like criminals". Lt. Morant was arrested after returning from leave in Pretoria, where he had gone to settle the affairs of his deceased friend Captain Hunt.
Chemical inhibiting BMP signals in chicken embryo caused a disruption of MD invagination and blocked the epithelial thickening of the MD-forming region, indicating that the BMP signals play a role in early MD development. Moreover, BMP signaling is involved in the formation of foregut and hindgut, intestinal villus patterning, and endocardial differentiation. Villi contribute to increase the effective absorption of nutrients by extending the surface area in small intestine. Gain or lose function of BMP signaling altered the patterning of clusters and emergence of villi in mouse intestinal model. BMP signal derived from myocardium is also involved in endocardial differentiation during heart development. Inhibited BMP signal in zebrafish embryonic model caused strong reduction of endocardial differentiation, but only had little effect in myocardial development. In addition, Notch-Wnt-Bmp crosstalk is required for radial patterning during mouse cochlea development via antagonizing manner. Mutations in BMPs and their inhibitors are associated with a number of human disorders which affect the skeleton. Several BMPs are also named 'cartilage-derived morphogenetic proteins' (CDMPs), while others are referred to as 'growth differentiation factors' (GDFs). BMPs are also involved in adipogenesis and functional regulation of adipose tissue. BMP4 favors white adipogenesis, whereas BMP7 activates brown fat functionality; BMP inhibitors are also involved in this regulation
Moxonidine (INN) is an imidazoline receptor agonist antihypertensive drug licensed for the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension. It may have a role when thiazides, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, and calcium channel blockers are not appropriate or have failed to control blood pressure. In addition, it demonstrates favourable effects on parameters of the insulin resistance syndrome, apparently independent of blood pressure reduction. It is also a growth hormone releaser. It is manufactured by Solvay Pharmaceuticals (acquired by Abbott in 2009) under the brand name Physiotens and Moxon.

It is a synthetic peptide triagonist that engages GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon receptors. Investigational compounds in this class are studied for metabolic conditions rather than for a single organ system.
No regulatory agency has approved it for any indication. It remains an investigational product studied within controlled clinical trial programs.
A dual agonist engages two receptor targets, typically GIP and GLP-1. A triagonist adds glucagon receptor activity, which is intended to influence energy expenditure alongside appetite and glucose handling.
Reversed-phase liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection is the standard approach, reported as area percent of the main peak. Orthogonal methods such as mass spectrometry confirm that the main peak has the expected mass. Purity figures are only comparable when column, gradient, and wavelength are matched.
